We decided to do a series of some of the Bridges of Atchison County. No, we don't have covered bridges, but we do have some pretty neat old bridges, and some new ones. We hope you enjoy visiting some of them. While placing these caches, we came upon deer, buffalo, coyote, rabbits, and one ole hoot owl, that was telling me all about the area or told me to get out, I don't know which. Did you see the buffalo in the pasture?
You know the drill: Not all of the roads in Atchison County are paved or gravel. Some of the roads are dirt roads, use caution, if the dirt roads are wet - DO NOT ATTEMPT!

One of the strongest county organizations among the farmers was the Atchison County Protective Association. It had is origin in a vigilance committee which was organized in 1883. For 3 years this committee operated as a vigilance committee and was organized un the Central Protection Association, August 31,1886. The first work that was done by the consolidated lodges was in running down a thief who stole a team of horses from Rolla Streeper. Members of both lodges were taxed $10. each to defray the expense of the chase. J. H. Barry was sheriff of the county at that time and caputred the thief in Nebraska.
