Whitetail Love Traditional Cache
wapiti mt: This cache went up in smoke!!! Somebody started a fire on Friday at the fishing access and with the wind on Saturday almost all of the area burned (newspaper said about 300 acres). If it had been in the fall I guess we could have thought two whitetail deer made it too hot and a fire started. Ha!! I will put back another cache in this area maybe sometime in the future if some of the vegetation returns. It will take a long time as the area is really scorched.

The cache is located in a new area open to the public along the Shields River. Please keep it clean and remove all trash. I see that some fishermen are starting to become slobs and leave trash behind. Maybe if we geocachers keep the area clean then they will get the hint!! Enjoy the area and you can try your luck at fishing if you want.
The Shields River is named after Private John Shields of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. John Shields was one of the married men on the journey. In the journals by Clark he is referred to as the blacksmith, gunsmith, or general mechanic of the expedition's personnel. He was praised by the Capitains for how he improvised. He used what little metallic products they had to make hide scrapers and arrow points for the Indians. He kept firearms in good working ordor, and made rifle balls by melting down the waterproof lead canisters in which their gunpowder was packed.
This cache is a small camouflage plastic container. Ha! When you are searching for the container don't be stumped and be careful with it as it could be damaged easily. Please return to the original state so others may enjoy the hide. Remember to log your visit. During hunting season there could also be muggles around so be careful and discrete.
I am placing three travelbugs in the cache so they may continue their journey. Also, there is a $2 bill and a micro cache container for first to find.
Congrats to Mt Tamale for FTF.
