Fir Heaven or Topo Hell? Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

CalMadDVM: This cache has gone missing, likely because it was an ammo can, and it was stolen. I'm sorry to let this one go, but it was out there for a while. Too bad these areas don't get much attention by cachers. It is a beautiful area. Easier to visit if you have a 4x4, that is for sure!

Geocache Description:

A small offering to the trees surviving here on Mount Raymond.  This cache is placed at a grove of trees that have ceased to grow but stand tall in spite of the elements to show beauty to those brave enough to visit them.  After hiking up here to find GC14Z8D, we had to leave one to keep it company.

This cache is NOT for the faint of heart! While traveling to a nearby challenging cache, GC14Z8D, Wheel of Misfortune, we stopped here to catch our breath and admire the small grove of large dead trees that still stand among the fir trees growing on the edge of Mount Raymond.  This is either Fir Heaven or Topographical Hell, depending on where you are standing and how you got here. We couldn't help but leave a cache to keep the Wheel of Misfortune company. This cache will take you on an Adventure! It is NOT easy to get here, so this cache will give you something to commemorate the occasion of your arrival. After driving our 4WD vehicle as far as we could take it, we hiked the steep ascent to get here across a challenging terrain.  The largest tree standing here reminds me that there is beauty to find for those who search, even in Topographical Hell.

Plan to spend the day away from the crowds and challenge yourself to come to Mount Raymond.  It took us 5 hours to four-wheel drive, then hike, to the caches here on Mount Raymond, and return back out to civilization. This cache was set by an intrepid group of friends who spent the day struggling to meet a goal, forging memories to share, as we contemplate Fir Heaven.  You can commemorate your visit by signing into this little gem and perhaps find the nearby cache at the sometime lake below.  We saw evidence of bear, many deer and squirrels, and birds galore along the way.  Water may be found early in the year, but there was none when the cache was placed in early September here.  At an elevation of 8513 feet, remember to stay off the heights when thunderstorms threaten, and carry all you will need for an extended hike.  The roads are not open during the snow season.  There is no cell service or amenities nearby. A high clearance 4WD can get you close, if you have that kind of equipment, otherwise, this is quite a hike. There is shifting rocks, and hiking sticks are highly recommended for the steep terrain.  Be careful to watch your step and travel with a buddy.  Stay Safe!

The cache is an ammo can with a log and goodies were left by the intrepid CalMadDVM / dbozsik (Team Brick), and SNJCollie, for the FTF.  BYOP
CONGRATULATIONS TO FJ JAY and Ham3 FOR FTF. They made it look easy with the FJ vehicle. Thanks for helping us weatherize the cache for the future.
