Geocache Description:

A multi with a twist requiring a visit to six locations to find the co-ordinates for a final cache. It should take between 1 and 2 hours.

This is a reworking of a cache that I had to archive in 2008. I had always liked this puzzle and wanted to bring it back in some form or other as it is just the sort of city cache I really like to do myself. It takes the form of six locations designed to give visitors a fun tour of the city and point out some lesser known sights to the locals. All the clues and the final cache lie within or on Chester city walls.

Please do not give away any information in your logs or post any spoiler photos especially at the final location.

Listed below there are six sets of co-ordinates. Each one will lead you to an information plaque. All the plaques contain information about the location and your job is to match the date to the name, place or incident. Note that there are multiple dates on each plaque. Each entry in the table has a three digit number next to it which will be used in the final calculation.

From the list below you have to pair up the information obtained from the plaques. For instance if you think the Theatre Royal was built in 1935 delete Theatre Royal from the North column and 1935 from the West column. When you have visited all six locations you will be left with two unused dates and two unused names. Add up the two three-digit numbers next to the unused names to get a number ABC then add up the two three-digit numbers next to the unused years to get a number DEF and then substitute them to find the final location which takes the form:

                                        N53 11.ABC W002 53.DEF

Simple.

The six sets of co-ordinates in no particular order are:

1 - N53 11.280 W002 53.316

2 - N53 11.444 W002 53.484

3 - N53 11.333 W002 53.364

4 - N53 11.482 W002 53.446
(There is another plaque nearby so to clarify you want “SNC” rather than “GL”)

5 - N53 11.502 W002 53.534

6 - N53 11.377 W002 53.730

The items of information and years are as follows:

14/7/28 - One of the plaques is currently obscured and tricky to read so I have temporarily attached a picture to make it easier. In order top keep the puzzle element I won't tell you which one it is although it shouldn't be difficult to work out.

The posted co-ordinates above are for the city centre and are of no significance. The final cache is a nano with no writing implement. It is difficult finding a quiet place within the city walls but I've tried to find a final location that is not too busy so you won't feel too self conscious looking for it. At certain times I'm sure you will need to exercise a bit of stealth but I'm confident that with a cacher's eye you should be able to spot this without too much fumbling around. The nano is easily accessible from a path 24/7. Please make sure you return it exactly where you found it.

Try and see if you can find this without the hint rather than read it before you even start looking!

Enjoy the walk.
