Geocache Description:

St John the Baptist, Upton Bishop is one of three churches carrying this consecration.  It is tucked out the way away from the main village and dates from the 13th Century though it is believed that this has been a religious site since Celtic times.  There was certainly a church standing here by the 11th century.  Like the other churches in the Ariconium Benefice it went through some major refurbishment in the 19th century.

There is an interesting guide available that takes you on a guided tour around the church and it’s grounds. There have also been some extensive archaeological digs and various items are on display.
This church has six bells in its large tower hung for ringing.  The tenor weighs in at just over 10 cwt.
There is also a rather pleasant Lych Gate with the inscription 'Given To The Glory Of God And In Memory Of Evans Mynde Allen By His Wife'
This is now a 35mm container. Please rehide well, tuck well in and cover, to avoid muggling.

While you are here why not seek one of the answers to the Ariconium Quest (GC4BFMP)?

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
There is also a Church Micro Stats page found via the Bookmark list
