Geocache Description:

A unique and interesting piece of local logging history. Yes, I know the smiley is important but take the time to read the plaque for an interesting story!

In summary, Big Bertha is a portable spar tree brought to the area in the 1950's to make logging more efficient and less dangerous. Her weight of over 50 tonnes doomed her to being impractical to move so she was ultimately a failure; however the basic design concept lived on.

Big Bertha is one of only 4 of her kind ever built in North America and is the only one to survive. She was destined for the scrap heap before being saved and put on display here.

This is a microcache with only room for the log so bring your own pencil/pen. I tried to make this one a little different (more interesting) than the average run of the mill micro. You do not have to climb on or under Big Bertha to find the cache. It is not magnetic. There is no other hint.

Please do not post pics of the cache container; let others find it for themselves.
