La principale caratteristica della chiesetta San Rocco è il pulpito collocato all’esterno, su un angolo della facciata. Il parroco don Mauro Marchiano ci fornisce una spiegazione:

"Alla festa di San Rocco – il 16 agosto – erano centinaia e centinaia i fedeli che accorrevano a parteciparvi, ma la capienza della chiesetta è di poche decine di persone; altre decine riuscivano a sostare all’ombra della plurisecolare quercia antistante la facciata; poi a centinaia e centinaia i fedeli occupavano i prati circostanti, come testimoniano le foto d’epoca. Ben pochi potevano seguire la Messa direttamente, ma il pulpito esterno, dove al momento giusto il celebrante si spostava, consentiva a tutti di ascoltare almeno la “predica”, fin dove almeno poteva giungere la voce del sacerdote, ché un tempo gli “altoparlanti” non li avevano ancora inventati."

L’attuale aspetto della chiesetta (recentemente restaurata da don Mauro) risale al 1890, distrutto da un terremoto il precedente oratorio; comunque da documenti parrocchiali ed antichi Statuti, in zona il culto di San Rocco si può far risalire al 1586...

The principal characteristic of the San Rocco chapel is the external pulpit located on the corner of the building. The local priest don Mauro Marchiano explains the origins:

"At the San Rocco fête - on the 16th of August - the congregation used to reach several hundred but the chapel can hold only about thirty people. Dozens would stand outside in the shade of the ancient oak tree in front of the chapel and hundreds more would occupy the surrounding lawn, as can be seen in the photos of the period. Very few could actually follow the Mass, but the external pulpit, which the priest would occupy at the appropriate moment, allowed everybody present to hear the crucial parts of the service. At least for as far as the priest's voice could carry, seeing as loudspeakers were yet to be invented."

The chapel's current appearance (recently restored by don Mauro) originated in 1890; the previous oratory being destroyed in an earthquake. Church documents and antique statutes however demonstrate that the cult of San Rocco has been celebrated in the area since 1586...
