Geocache Description:

Final cache in the CCC series. The Canyon Caper Cache is a multicache that will provide an opportunity to learn about the role of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the creation of Palo Duro Park. Congratulations to Espy Seay and Sparkybell for the FTF!

This is a three-stage multicache with the physical cache located at stage 3. Stages 1 and 2 have a terrain rating of 1. Stage 3 has a short, steep trail hike and has a 2.5 terrain rating.
Stage 1 is located at the published coordinates. Use information from the CCC sign to complete the coordinates for stage 2.
Stage 2 coordinates: N 034 59.0AA W 101 41.BBB
  • AA = 17,018 minus the number of initial acres acquired by the state for Palo Duro Canyon State Park minus the year the first CCC company arrived.
  • BBB = 4,369 minus the year African American CCC troops were relocated to Sweetwater minus the year the last CCC group left the park.
  • Travel to stage 2 and use information from that location to complete the coordinates for stage 3.
Stage 3 coordinates: N 034 58.CCC W 101.40.863
  • CCC = 3,134 minus number of men housed at the CCC tent city minus the year the park was officially opened.

Please use stealth when at stage 3 as it may be a muggle-infested location at certain times of the year.  Please replace the cache as found to maintain the difficulty.  A compass rose geotoken is inside for the first to find.  The cache contains ready-made micro cache containers composed of a bison tube and micro log. Please take one and hide a new cache!  A small amount of kid-friendly swag is also in the cache.  Permit is on file at the park office.
