Geocache Description:


Geocaching is a sport that takes us into all types of terrains, and we go searching in all types of weather. Usually the geocaching team arrive home safe and sound, although sometimes a little worse for wear, with the occasional cut or bruise, or broken rib. Very occasionally though, this is not the case and we need a little more help to find our way home. This series looks at those people who help those who are lost or hurt, and need help in getting back to where they want to be. Hopefully you will never need to experience the reality of this help first hand.

LandSAR – NZ Land Search & Rescue
New Zealand Land Search & Rescue Inc. (LandSAR) is the national volunteer organisation within New Zealand providing land search & rescue services to the Police and public of New Zealand. It has over 3,500 trained search and rescue volunteers who cover the length and breadth of NZ. All volunteers get special training and are split into 63 Land Search & Rescue groups in seven regions, although other groups like Alpine Cliff rescue and Whitewater rescue are local groups with specialists in these skills.
LandSAR operates in suburban/urban and wilderness/rural Search & Rescue operations, underground Search & Rescue operations in caves or other natural underground areas, shoreline Search & Rescue operations linked to marine incidents, and other Search & Rescue operations as agreed with NZ Police. LandSAR’s role in Search & Rescue is formalised in a Memorandum of Understanding with NZ Police

You are looking for a small screwtop container. GPS accuracy may not be good due to tree coverage. This cache is not available 24/7. The gate opens at 7.30am but closing times differ throughout the year, from 6pm-9pm. Please take note of the closing time as you enter the park.
