Geocache Description:

Two of Charters Towers eminent events are highlighted in this geocache, along with several related locations.

The Charters Towers Goldfield Ashes, held over the long weekend in January, began in 1948 and is now the largest cricket carnival in the southern hemisphere.

The Rodeo Arena is part of the Dalrymple Arenas. There is a covered area for rodeo and horse sport activities, with canteen, toilets, bar, etc. Many ride their eight seconds, but there are always some who end up in the dust!

To find the cache, visit both the headquarters for the Goldfield Ashes and the Rodeo Arena. These visits and others will help you get the coordinates for the cache, which is located at S 20 02.ABC; E 146 14.DEF.

The headquarters for the Goldfield Ashes are at: S 20 04.793; E 146 16.231. ‘A’ is the number of sets of 5 'sloping/ventilation/window' blocks on the front of the center.

The Dalrymple Rodeo arena is located at: S 20 06.400; E 146 14.752. ‘D’ is the number of vowels in a sign facing the highway. This sign has two bucking broncs on either side of the words.

'E' is the number of large Norfolk pine trees growing at the Mosman Park Cricket Grounds (S 20 05.667; E 146 15.769).

Rodeos used to be held at the Showgrounds. 'B' is the number of ticket windows in the main Showgrounds gate near S 20 04.361; E 146 15.213.

Now head to S 20 02.663; E 146 14.739. Sit down, contemplate your life, then look for the following near by:

'C' is the number of rose memorials to the left of the seat.
'F' is the number of decades Dennis Vincent Donovan lived (found on wall front and right of the seat).

Sit back down and work out the coordinates for the cache. Grab a history information sheet while you are there to help you look for interesting places here after you have found the cache.

Due to what was a well-hidden cache going missing, cache is now temporarily at least about half a meter from where it was and is a small plastic container. Will see if it stays there.

Log only so bring your own writing instrument.

No tradeables – you can’t take it with you anyhow!

Don’t look for cache after 8 pm.
