Geocache Description:

Astronominis kalendorius

Astronominiai stebejimai turejo praktine reikšme to meto žmogaus gyvenime.
Pirmaji Saules laikrodi Kretingoje 1610 m. pastate J.K. Chodkevicius. Antrasis Saules kalendorius-laikrodis papuoše Kretinga 2002 m. rugpjucio 10 d.
Didysis saules kalendoriaus stulpas yra kompozicijos centre. Ji kerta pagrindine ašis, orientuota šiaures-pietu kryptimi.

EN Lithuanian astronomical knowledge reaches the Stone Age. Timing and Gods were associated with celestial objects. Astronomical observations had practical implications for human life at that time.
The first Sundial in Kretinga was built in 1610 by J.K. Chodkevicius. The Second Sundial-Astronomic Calendar adorned Kretinga in August 10, 2002.
The grand Sundial column is in the compsition's center. It crosses he main axis oriented north-south direction. The stones with dates of holidays and the month names- runes set on the meridian line. The shadow of main column at noon (at 12:43 Kretinga time) coincide with meridian line. Seasons and holidays are calculated according to Sun radius position on main axis at midday. From here are set Sundial hours.
