Geocache Description:

The MCPS WEST series invites geocachers to explore the beauty of Monmouth County’s western parks.  Sponsored by the Monmouth County Park System (MCPS) these caches are designed to be family-friendly and to encourage people to explore some gems of Monmouth County.    There are six caches total in the series (see below).  The first five caches contain a hidden question and can be found in any order.  Answer the five questions to receive the coordinates for the sixth and final cache.  This last cache has stored in it the MCPS WEST buttons to collect.

Turkey Swamp 101
The title of the park may be considered a bit of a misnomer considering the park does not have a swamp, nor does it provide a habitat for turkeys.  The 'turkey' prefix was adapted from the town's previous name, Turkey. The town once known as Turkey is now known as the Unincorporated Area of Adelphia.  The 'swamp' title is due to the sandy soil and how the water table lies slightly beneath the surface, giving rise to occasional swampy conditions. Turkey Swamp has many attractions, including a 17-acre lake for fishing, boating, and ice-skating, an archery range, playgrounds, and miles of trails.  A walk through the trails reveals a primitive wilderness with plants and animals associated with the NJ Pine Barrens.

Cache Summary
Turkey Swamp is at 200 Georgia Rd, Freehold, NJ.  Once in the park follow the signs to the Archery Range.
Trail:  Take the Old Lenape Trail a little back along the road.  The cache is less than a .33 mile walk.
