Mount Paul is recently acquired public parkland by the New Jersey State Park System. The 1,133 acres connect Sparta Mountain Wildlife Management Area with Mahlon Dickerson Reservation. It was previously owned by the Paulist fathers who purchased the property in 1924 and used it as a seminary until 1997. After this it was used as a center for religious retreats. Before the Paulist fathers owned it a hunting lodge stood on that site. Local lore said the owners sold the land to the Paulist fathers as penance after their wives discovered the hunters were inviting women of ill repute to the lodge. Local history buffs will neither confirm nor deny this tale. Congratulations to Ragtime Fan, Swampland'r, Omnigirl, CacheHunt'r, Walkin'Ed, Tkitgirl & Horse, escapee06, BelgianBaker and Tl1 on (FTF). Back to my evil workshop.
