This cache was originally placed for the the First State Challenge 2012 sponsored by Delaware Geocachers! Although the challenge has ended, this cache is still available to be found!!
Trails and parking lots are open 8am to sunset only. The gravel trail is wide with a few hills and can be busy. The cache is hidden near a spot for waiting out muggles and signing the log. Total hike is about .5 miles from the small lot and you are looking for an plastic lock 'n lock. If you don’t have a park sticker, payment envelopes are available for the $4 (DE) or $8 (out of state) fee through Nov 30.
The cache has the approval of Brandywine Creek State Park.
Description:
Only in Delaware would we call many of our lakes, ponds and our rivers, creeks. In Pennsylvania, this is referred to as the Brandywine River and in both states is often just called The Brandywine. The headwaters of this creek are in Chester County about 40-50 miles away and numerous streams feed the creek until it finally flows into the Christina River in Wilmington. Enough water flows down here to supply Wilmington and some suburbs with good water. In past times the water powered numerous mills for the processing of grain and the manufacture of gunpowder, paper and cloth. The Rockland Mill near the parking coordinates is just one mill building that has been converted to modern day use. Observe the geology of the area incuding the huge blue rock boulders and the swiftly moving waters that have carved through the rocks over time.
