Town of Clover Celebrates 125th Anniversary: At one time, Clover, South Carolina, was a little station on the Chester and Lenoir Narrow-Gauge Railroad that provided water to the trains passing through. But, by faith and fortitude, the Town’s population and economy grew. Clover was officially incorporated on December 24, 1887. Clover has continued to grow and prosper and now, 125 years after incorporation, is celebrating its Quasquicentennial Anniversary. The celebration will be held from September 2012 through March 2013. A variety of activities have been planned. Visit www.cloversc.org for anniversary event updates, and make sure to visit www.geocaching.com for other Clover History Caches in our History Series! To participate in the passport challenge, download the Clover History Series Geocaching Passport from www.cloversc.org. Upon locating all of the caches in the series and completing the challenges, bring your completed passport to the Town of Clover office and receive a limited edition commemorative (nontrackable) coin.
Do NOT search for the final after dark. This is a daylight only cache at the request of the property owner!
This cache will take you to two of the locations mentioned in the article below. You will get information from each of the two locations and use it to solve the coordinates for the final. You can easily get the information without even leaving your vehicle.
From the Rock Hill Herald newspaper, August 1, 1988...
American Thread (N 35 06.386 W 81 13.810) - This is the location of the former American Thread building. The building is in bad shape and is currently unoccupied. In order to get the NORTH coordinates, you need to find out how many rows (not columns but rows) of windows are on the front (facing the road) side of the building. Do NOT count the section over the doors on the end. The correct answer is an even number.
A = Rows - 1
B = Rows - 1
C = Rows - 1
N 35 06.ABC
Klear Knit (N 35 06.181 W 81 14.232) - This is the location of the former Klear Knit company. The company that now occupies the building has a sign in front. Using that sign and the colors of the logo, you can get the WEST coordinates for the final.
1=Green 2=Yellow 3=Purple
4=Pink 5=White 6=Orange
7=Blue 8=Red 9=Black
X = Color of the I
Y = Color of the C
Z = Color of I and C overlap
W 81 13.XYZ
Checksum: A+B+C+X+Y+Z=26
The final cache is located at a place where members of a local chapter of a national organization have gathered for many years. The cache itself is a small container that contains a log and can hold small trade items.
