Geocache Description:

This cache is one in a short series on Tinker's Hill, on the lower slopes of Chosen Hill. The series is numbered in the order I placed them - you can choose the order to fit in with your route! You are looking for a small micro containing a log only - please bring your own pen! NOTE there is some barbed wire near the cache so please take care!


Tinker’s Hill (formerly Rabbits’ Hill) is a North Westerly offshoot of the larger Chosen Hill, an outlier to the Jurassic Limestone escarpment which lies some 2 km to the east. The Churchdown Golf Course, which existed up to the outbreak of the First World War, was on the lower slopes above the railway line and the Clubhouse was off Pirton lane, close to Sugarloaf Bridge. In late spring the fields on the lower slopes are full of buttercups.

This short series can be started at the stile close to Sugarloaf Bridge on Pirton Lane. There is no parking here but there is a free public car park a few minutes walk away. The 98 bus stops on Pirton Lane and in the village centre. There is also a public car park at the top of Chosen Hill from which you could also walk down to Tinker's Hill. You could also park near the Recreation Ground at John Daniels Way.

The cache is hidden at the stile between two fields. From the stile there is a great view back up Tinker’s Hill towards a group of magnificent Pine trees. The GZ may get muddy at times and there are nettles close by too!! Watch for nails too! You are looking for a camouflaged bison container. Please replace carefully!! Watch for dog walking muggles!
