Geocache Description:

The cache is a small 2 inch long drill bit box.

The south Meridian Marker and a second one to the north of Armagh City were used by Victorian Astronomers at Armagh Observatory to check the alignment and to provide a stable reference point on the horizion for the Astronomical Instruments at the Observatory to measure the coordinates of the stars, fine adjustment of the instruments relided on an adjustable pointer which was on top of the marker and was visible from the Observatory, both the south and north markers were erected around 1790 and have recently been restored by the Department of the Environment, the marker is on private ground, there is a good view of it from the cache site.
