Behold the last remnants of a dying hobby. Look North up sky ward. What you see are relics of a hi-tech hobby, that's being made obsolete by current advancements in technology. Back in the 1960's when I was 8 or so years old, my older cousin Gary came to visit and told me a story of a friend that was able to talk to people all around the world on a piece of wire hanging outside a window. He also told me his friend could make telephone calls on his HT (Handie-Talkie) from anywhere in Chicagoland. Sounds pretty amazing and it was back in the 1960 - 1980's when I grew up. This is when my love for HAM radio began, a hobby that would forever change the direction of my life. It established my "social networks", well before that word had any meaning. Every serious job, relationship and friend that I have can be traced back to a person I met while communicating on a radio transmitter. Now all this is slowly being phased into obscurity by current technological advances like the Internet, social networks and a strange new hobby called "Geocaching".
