Geocache Description:

This is the location of the first Lidingö bridge. You can go here by boat from Nybroplan if you want.


The first Lidingö bridge to the mainland was a pontoon bridge which was built in 1802-1803 over the Lilla Värtan between Larsberg on Lidingö and Kaknäs on Djurgården. The initiator of the bridge was Lars Fresk (1758-1830) who ran a textile industry at Elfviks gård. The location of the bridge was chosen primarily due to the small depth of water in that part of the Lilla Värtan, and it also had a significant shorter route for agricultural products to Stockholm than in the past for the large farms in the south of Lidingö.


As the bridge was in the way for vessels bound for the Värta harbour, a new pontoon bridge was instead built between Ropsten and Torsvik in 1883. This bridge was in turn replaced by a steel construction in 1925, covered by cache Lidingöbron 2 - GC3WPZJ

Because of the ferry operating in the immediate vicinity of the cache you are almost sure to encounter mugglers at daytime! Be aware of those and don't fall into the water. You have been warned!
