The Margaret River region offers visitors some of the most unique and stunning cave experiences in Australia.
Directly below CaveWorks lies Lake Cave, a stunning pristine chamber deep beneath the earth. Inside the cave a tranquil lake reflects delicate formations that will take your breath away. Visitors descend a staircase in time, gazing up at towering karri trees from a primeval lost world, before entering one of the most beautiful limestone caves in Western Australia.
Lake Cave is, to put it simply, a mirrored wonderland. Home to the "suspended table" which weighs several tonnes and is one of the only formations of its kind in the world, Lake is the most active cave in the south west. It is the only cave on the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge that has a permanent lake.
Entry access is through a spectacular doline - a large hole in the earth's surface. It is the deepest of the three show caves run by the Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association. It is home to Caveworks, a world-class eco interpretative centre designed to help you learn about the formation and history of caves within the region, throughout Australia and around the world.
