Pwllcrochan - Martin's Haven Traditional Cache
Pwllcrochan - Martin's Haven
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This cache is one of a fairly straightforward series hidden in the nature reserve surrounding the church in Pwllcrochan. They have been placed with the intention of persuading you to explore this beautiful and out-of-the-way place. This cache is a small and involves a short pleasant walk along the beach. In the 19th century Martin’s Haven was a small harbour with a harbour wall and a lime kiln. Local people used the lime as a constituent of cement and as a fertiliser on their fields. There was also a saltings located here, where salt was collected. Further back in time, 200 Roundhead soldiers landed here during the Civil War, an action which resulted in the “Skirmish” of Pwllcrochan which took place in the churchyard. This small shelly inlet now provides an interesting perspective of the haven and the LNG site and is a popular spot for muggle fishermen. Due to its tidal location, it is possible that this cache may not be accessible during extremely high tides. This series of caches have been placed with the kind permission of Valero and the Countryside Council for Wales. We hope you enjoy discovering this hidden gem as much as we did.
