The cache you're looking for is located in the small railway town of Almaden located along the Burke Developmental (Savannah Way) Road between Dimbulah and Chillagoe. There are three Almaden’s in the world! The original Almaden is a Spanish Mercury mining town. The second Almaden is located in vineyard country in California, America. And then you have this Almaden! The township of Almaden was established in 1907 when the Chillagoe Railway and Mining Company commenced construction of the Etheridge railway line from this location. Land was reclaimed from the surrounding Spring Valley cattle station so that the township of Almaden could be established. Unfortunately, they never constructed a fence around the town to keep the cattle out. As a result, cattle have free reign of the town and for this reason, it is known locally as 'Cow Town'. In its halcyon days, the town saw mineral (copper ore), livestock and general freight trains pass through on a daily basis. These days, the town only sees one weekly passenger train service. No railway employee’s are now based at Almaden, but most of the old railway buildings and infrastructure, dating back to the days of the humble steam locomotive, still exist. This cache is located around a relic that once serviced steam locomotives and the cache's name should quickly point you in the right direction on arrival at the GZ. The cache you are looking for has been specially constructed for this location, so may initially be hard to spot. Only a pen and log are held inside. Please return the cache exactly how you found it.
