Geocache Description:

Church Micro 3023...Flitton

This cache has been placed to bring you to the Church of St John the Baptist, Flitton. The cache is a black, magnetic filmpot. It only contains a log - you are a geocacher, you should have a writing implement! Please note that the final cache is located outside the churchyard.

There has been a church in Flitton since Saxon times. The present church was built between 1450 and 1490 from the local sandstone. There was a quarry on Flitton Hill which probably was the source of the stone. The church was paid for by Edmund Lord Grey of Ruthin who was made Earl of Kent by Edward IV and is built in the perpendicular style. There are many interesting features in this Medieval building including eight green men which are reminders of our pagan past. It is a Grade One listed building.

The De Grey Mausoleum was added in the early 17th century and is made of brick. Two more rooms were added by the Duke of Kent in the 18th century, and the final room was created in the 19th century by cutting off part of the chancel. The mausoleum is now managed by English Heritage.

I placed the cache here as the village and church are very pretty and, at Christmas, there are some excellent Christmas lights!. There is also an excellent cache to do while you are here - Inspector Cluedo: Professor Plum

Please take time to explore the peace and tranquility, but please be respectful in the church and its grounds.

To find the location of the final cache, you will first need to find main entrance path. The railing on the right of the path has AB vertical posts. Near the start of this path are some steps up to the churchyard to the right. There are C steps.

The final cache can be found at NORTH 52° 00.CAC WEST 000° 27.(C-A)(C-A)(B+1)
