Water Birds of the Mystic Multi-Cache
MedfordPnG: Time to archive Water Birds. The cache containers have been difficult to maintain—problems with them being tossed in the river—but more importantly, the area where Stage 2 is located will soon become a construction site for the Clippership Connector, a multi-use path that will close a critical gap in the Mystic River Reservation trail system. Once completed, there will be lots of new locations available for new and interesting hides.

Water Birds of the Mystic is a three-part multi along an overlooked section of the Mystic River. Although noise and ugliness of the modern world is just yards away you may see herons, egrets, woodpeckers and hawks along this post-industrial waterway. We think it is best done by canoe or kayak, but each cache has been placed for safe and easy access by land. It could be done entirely on foot, but it is not possible to follow the banks of the river for the entire journey.
A special thanks to phild31 and gw0134 for the FTF! This multi begins at a spot with ample parking and easy access to drop a canoe or kayak in the water. Our cache containers have been hand-crafted in a unique design intended to fit this environment. Once you have located the first cache you will know what to look for when seeking out the others. Coordinates for following stages are labeled on the inside of the cache containers. We wouldn't recommend attempting while there is more than an inch of snow on the ground, but it is entirely safe to try in cold weather as there is no need to scramble over rocks or climb down the banks of the river.
