It all began here. This is where Horace Smythe, dealer in rare antiquities, first encountered that deadly contraption simply known as, "The Machine."
Before Horace Smythe was forced into a series of terrible adventures--back when he led a simple life as a dealer in curiosities-- he would often stroll these streets. It was on one of these walks that he saw something odd nearby. It looked like a dark container--with something inside making noises. The noises were like the ratchet of gears. When Smythe got closer, the ratcheting sounds increased. His curiosity increased, he peered inside--a mistake that cost him dearly.
When he peered in, Smythe set in motion a series of adventures that were more nightmares than reality. What he saw in the box was the look of alien intelligence. And worse yet--The Machine knew that Smythe had seen it.
The Machine repaid Smythe's curiosity with a nasty surprise--Smythe found his body being pulled into the machine--right toward those clattering gears! The Machine was trying to kill him! One hand was quickly drawn in and soon maimed by the spinning gears. Screaming in terror, Smythe did the only thing he could--he jammed his walking stick into the Machine's gears. This act gave him just enough time to yank his hand out and run to safety. (If you look closely, you may still see some bloodstains as evidence of this horrid attack.)
Thus began the terrible series of encounters with "M." During these encounters, Smythe slowly learned the horrible truth: The Machine is a threat not against him, but against all humanity.
Smythe placed this beacon as a monument of hope--the struggle of humanity against the evil force of The Machine. As one man overcome evil, so must humanity.
Horace Smythe needs your help to combat the Machine.
He cannot face the Machine alone--it is simply too powerful for one lone antiques dealer. However, you can assist Smythe by participating in these adventures:
