Geocache Description:

So why hike this somewhat steep trail? Here are six good reasons:
1. Access to Deer Park, since the road is often closed until July.
2. Wildflowers that grow along this trail in profusion, both in numbers and varieties.
3. Absolute solitude for most of the way.
4. Spectacular views of the entire Grey Wolf River valley and its towering peaks.
5. You'll earn it all, something you simply can't do from the seat of your SUV.
6. THERE"S A CACHE UP THERE!

This lightly used but well-defined trail starts out gentle enough through a dry forest of Douglas-fir, layered with rhododendrons and carpeted by salal and kinnikinnick.
At 1.5 miles reach an unmarked junction with a "short-cut" trail that leads 0.5 mile back to the old road (about 1.6 miles from Slab Camp). You can take this route to reach Caroline's Viewpoint cache.
The easy strolling ends at this point, as the way steepens. At about 2.75 miles reach an open rib and your first breathtaking views of the Gray Wolf Valley. A bench has been placed here in memory of longtime trail volunteer and Sequim resident Phil Hall. It is indeed a great place to be honored and hide a cache.
The container is a large Lock&Lock with a few trinkets and a log book. It’s located within 50’ of the upper bench.

You could also gain access to the trail from Deer Park and hike down the trail about 2.5 mile to the cache, but the park is closed 8-9 months of the year.

"Cache seekers assume all risks and responsibilities involved in seeking this and any cache." This cache may not be suitable for younger cachers as there is a dropoff just below the cache. Caution: You may encounter loose rocks and drop-offs!
