You seek a container emphasizing FIRE as the nature in which the Flatwoods are preserved. It is quart size, containing many items including a special FTF Award.

Flatwoods are vast areas of relatively flat lands formed by changes in sea level during glacial times. Thick layers of sand were deposited on the land supporting long leaf pine tree growth and other plants.

Frequent fires have controlled vegetation and prevented the forest from being overgrown. Lightening causes many natural-occurring fires, but humans also start many fires in the ecosystem. After a fire, when other competing plants have been burned away, beneficial species sprout.

Flatwoods have open pine flats. It has been said that pioneers could drive a wagon through them.
Mammals that use Flatwoods are black bear, Florida panther, gray fox, white-tailed deer, fox squirrel, raccoon, cottontail rabbit, wild hogs, armadillo and small rodents. (snakes too).

There are two primary ways in which humans have affected Flatwoods. The first way is by clearing and developing the land, because the flat topography in these areas make good home sites, cropland and pastures. Many thousands of acres of Flatwoods have been cleared and developed for roads, railroads, agriculture and other human uses. As these lands are developed Flatwoods habitat is fragmented or eliminated in many areas. Numerous wild life species may suffer from loss of habitat.
