Geocache Description:

The hike to Cerro Chato is an intense hike!  Think of the stairmaster in the clouds.  Bring plenty of water and snacks for the many breaks to get to the top.  Just take the road to the waterfalls, just as you pull in to the parking lot take the fork to the right to the trailhead.  There is a $10 fee per person to get in.  It took us about 2 hours to get to the top, and we made plenty stops along the way to catch our breath.  The first part is a nice groomed trail with plants lining the sides.  Once you make it to the first vista and get into the trees is when the stairs start...and they never stop!  Im pretty sure I was cussing the whole way up, but it was so worth it once you make it there trust me!  The frogs are everywhere and if you dip your feet in the water, the fish will come up and nip your feet.  It took about 1 1/2 hour to get back down.

My boyfriend and I came to Costa Rica for 12 days, we placed this cache on our last stop in La Fortuna.  Were both from California and wanted to start the cache off right!  Inside is a California Highway Patrol Trackable badge, and California Geocoin.  The cache is hidden at the base of a tree under rocks and leaves.  Its at a stopping point just before you decend into the crater.  Its behind the first bench on the left if your looking from the trail.  We didnt see any monkeys but saw plenty of hummingbirds and even a white faced coati when we were placing the cache.  I hope others see him too!  He seemed to not fear people, nor our backpacks as he was searching around.  Happy Caching!
