Geocache Description:

I placed this cache on a boat tour through the backwaters of Munroe Island and I want to encourage you to make this boat tour yourself.

The tours go along some narrow canals through this very nice, calm and peaceful island. You can see some birds and plants. Some local people may show you how they make rope on the spinning wheel or get you a coconut to drink its water and eat its flesh. This may sound a little boring but in fact it is really nice and it is a get-away from the busy touristy areas and from any of the car and motorbike noise which is normally your not-so-loved companion in india. Enjoy the sound of nature and the beautiful sourrounding.

There are five or six people on the island who do these tours. I bet you can just go there and find someone to do the tour with you.

After the tour we visited Vijeesh's house and he's shown us videos of some of the quite magnificent long-boat races you will learn about on the tour.

Getting there & away

Don't ask me :) I went with a friend from Kollam by motorbike. Rent a bike, the ride will be not too risky. But be careful with the bumps on the roads. There also is a train station nearby. On the way back we took a ferry over a lake at Perumon - which was nice.

The Cache

The cache can only be reached by boat and it is placed near the Karoothra Kadavu bridge in the wall. I got the coordinates by using google maps - so at least on the map they are good. Mine from the GPS device where kind of off - so please look on the map first. The only one who knows about the cache right now is Vijeesh's father but you can find it easily I think. It is a film container with a simple piece of paper as the logbook. It is placed in a more public area because I don't know if every tour goes along the same canels - so you cannot miss it on your tour I think.

I would very much like it if you'd post a photo of your tour along with your log entry.

Enjoy!
