In 2007 Wild West World theme park opened and closed in Sedgwick County Kansas – it was open a mere 64 days. It was an all-western theme park. You may think this sounds like a crazy idea. Yet, then again, Frontier City has been running strong in OKC since 1958 – so maybe the idea was not so very crazy after all. The true problem was it really was an over-dressed carnival run by a man who put too many cards on the table and with lagging attendance along with an unusually rainy summer the place was really doomed before it got off the ground.
I recall sitting on the 69th street bridge watching Wild West’s humongous Fourth of July display and thinking ‘Too bad they are closing it would have helped out the economy around here and brought more businesses and jobs to the North I-35 area.’
Alas, the dream is gone – the few remaining buildings are falling to rubble under the wear of time and here sits a beautiful piece of architecture that seems completely lost out here in the middle of nowhere.
We BELIEVE in Travel Bugs: So if there is one here & you do NOT plan on logging it A.S.A.P. & following its mission goal then PLEASE do NOT TAKE IT! If you too BELIEVE in TRACKABLES -- then grin and add it to your inventory but please remember to log it out of our cache so the next chacher does not have the let down of finding it is not here. Thank you.
