The "Trinkie" is an outdoor swimming pool filled with tidal water. In the early 1900s town councils in Scotland attempted to cash in on the tourist market by building these pools near coastal towns. Very few of them remain today - the Trinkie survives only because of willing volunteers.
The Trinkie is a natural sea water pool which is painted yearly. There is a road that runs down to it and on a hot summer's day you will find families having picnics and swimming here. Still cleaned out each year by volunteers and painted white it is still a cold dip even in summer. This tidal swimming pool lies on the outskirts of Wick past the old coastguard station at Wick's South Head in Caithness.
