Long description

SLO:

V času turških vpadov so meščani obzidje obnovili, nadzidali in močneje utrdili z vogalnimi obrambnimi stolpi. Fragmenti so še danes vidni v ostankih obzidja (do druge svetovne vojne je bilo obzidje skoraj v celoti ohranjeno), v ohranjenem vodnem jarku ob gradu in v severozahodnem in jugozahodnem vogalnem stolpu. Stolp in ostanki obzidja so lep primer ohranjene nekdanje trške oziroma mestne arhitekture.

Če želite izvedeti več o mestu in gradu, potem obiščite grad, kjer imajo razne razstave.

EN:

In the year 1339 Slovenska Bistrica got all the rights that other towns in the country had, also the right to a town wall. The medieval town had a rough shape of a rectangle and was surrounded by the town wall fortified with towers and a moat. During the time of the Turkish invasions the town’s people renovated the walls, raised them and added strongly fortified towers at the corners. There are some fragments of the city walls preserved to this day, which are approximately 50 - 60 cm wide and 150 to 400 cm high. The borders medieval town ran along the streets: Čopova street, Vošnjakova street, Zadružna street, south of oil factory, Grajska street and Street Borisa Kidriča. In the year 1487 the town had a town wall, a moat, two ramparts and several doors with old towers. Fragments are still visible in the remains of the wall, in the preserved water moat by the Slovenska Bistrica castle and in the northwest and southwest corner towers. The northwest tower is part of the present-day castle building; the southwest tower that is called Grasl's tower (also Granary tower, Gunpowder magazine) has been beautifully restored. In its design one can trace three stages of construction. It is an extremely well preserved medieval building, which for at least two hundred and fifty years has changed very little. The ornate corners at the base of the tower constructed in the Gothic manner still reveal the Romanesque tradition. The Tower has a deepened ground floor and three stories with wooden floors above it. After the renovation work, which lasted several years - it was completed in the year 2004, the tower became a beautiful and spacious exhibition hall. The tower is beautiful example of preserved former market and town architecture.

To get more information about the town and the castle we recommend a visit of the castle where are several exhibitions. You can take a relaxing stroll through the park, which is surrounded by the town wall. We also recommend searching for the Slovenska Bistrica cache (GC1491C).

No worries about neighbours, they know about the cache.
