Geocache Description:

This is the first cache made by Girl Scout Troop 20469 - a group of girls who go to school at Lincoln Elementary.  Though we are City kids, we love the outdoors.  This cache is a kiss to fellow geocachers and all its original contents were lovingly placed by Girl Scouts.  One of the girls from our Troop lives in this house and is very excited about seeing happy geocachers find a treasure!

Welcome to the Mid North Historic District located in the City Of Chicago!  Our home is one of the 5 brick Italianate-style row houses all constructed together in 1877.  Fullerton Parkway is one of the most exclusive streets in the Mid North District.  In its early days, street cars were not allowed on the Parkway and even today, public transportation is not allowed.  The majority of the mansions and row houses along Fullerton Parkaway date from the 1880's and 1890's, are primarliy Richardsonian, Romanesque, or Queen Anne in style, have rough faced stone facades, and retain similar setbacks from the street.
The District has retained its distinct, late 19th century urban character over the years, with 85%of its housing stock constructed before 1900.

Our home is a two story brick rowhouse with a raised basement in the Italianate style.  It features a high first floor entry with a steep wood staircase, cast iron newel posts, and iron pipe rail.  The red brick facade has three openings per floor, all with bracketed stone lintels having incised ornamentation.  The wood cornice with brackets is original to the home.  The building fell into disrepair but was entirely restored on the front facade with new brick and stone.
We are the 20th family to live here since this lovely home was built.  In 2007, 130 years after the original house was constructed, we constructed an addition to the back of the house and added a steel carport with a lovely garden and deck on the top of it.  We consider ourselves caretakers of this historic home and have lovingly restored the inside, the exterior, and its garden.
