Geocache Description:


Founded in 1838, Metamora is Indiana's only functioning canal town. Most of the buildings bordering the canal were constructed between 1828 and 1865 when the canal was an active transportation route. After 1865, the town became a local trading center and was served by the railroad and the highway.

Today Metamora keeps morphing and reinventing itself. The campground where this cache is placed is part of a bigger picture that includes a train depot conference center and possibly a visitor's center, museum, interpretive area and future blockhouse/stockade area.

This cache is placed with permission of the campground management and Paul (one of 3 area park managers.)
