Geocache Description:

This series, FWP or Famous Wisconsin People, will acknowledge the accomplishments of some well-known (and maybe not so well-known) individuals from our state.

Emerson D. Hoyt, born March 7, 1847, lived his entire life in Wisconsin and was instrumental in the development of Wauwatosa. Although he had limited formal education, and spent a great portion of his adult life as a farmer, he went on to learn a great deal through reading and experience. Hoyt was the elected the first president of the Village of Wauwatosa and went on to become its first mayor. He was also the first banker for the city of Wauwatosa.

Emerson Hoyt, also known as E.D. Hoyt, was one of the first incorporators of the Village of Wauwatosa after the village's incorporation in 1897. Hoyt served on the Milwaukee County Parks Commission from 1907-1921. He was the commission's second president. Hoyt died in 1924 at the age of 77. He is said to have been a "most prominent and influential resident there for many years and Milwaukee claims him as a splendid type of the progressive citizen who has promoted her development and welfare."
