On the south slope of the Highwood Mountains, these "pin wheels" have recently cropped up!
In the fall of 2011, construction began on the Spion Kop Wind Farm, named for the former community of Spion Kop which was once in the area. The 40 Mega Watt, $86 million-dollar project occupies almost 4,000 acres at the base of the Highwood Mountains outside the town of Raynesford and includes 25 model 1.6-xle wind turbines. The turbines were supplied by General Electric, who will operate and maintain them for 10 years. After logging this find, continue on to find the numerous caches to the north and into the Highwoods. Happy Caching! The cache is a micro-ish container with room for log, pencil, and tiny trade items. It is not necessary to cross any fences to get to the cache.
