This ammo box is located near the Eleventh Mountain trailhead, which is along Route 8 in the town of Johnsburg.
This cache is designed to encourage people to explore the East Branch Sacandaga Trail in the Siamese Ponds Wilderness Area. The trailhead is located along Route 8 in the town of Johnsburg about 4 miles west of Bakers Mills.
The East Branch Sacandaga Trail is #4 and #14 in the Adirondack Mountain Club's Adirondack Trails: Central Region guidebook. This trail is the main southern access to the Siamese Ponds Wilderness Area. It starts out following an old stagecoach route which leads to and follows the East Branch of the Sacandaga River. After 4 miles, there is a lean-to and a neat suspension bridge. If you cross the bridge, there is a trail that continues 2.3 miles to the Siamese Ponds. If you continue on the main trail, it continues another 5.6 miles to the Old Farm Clearing, which is one of the main northern access points to the Siamese Ponds Wilderness Area.
The ammo box is located about 40 feet from the trail. The signal was not the best (about 30 feet accuracy), so you might need the hint.
