Geocache Description:

McBride, the first B.C. community on the Yellowhead Highway-Hwy16, has a history tied to railroads and forestry.

If you are traveling west it is a 2 hr drive to Prince George, and along the way you will pass many unique railway trestles and marked old growth forests. This can be a very lonely road in the winter and can seem like a lot longer drive than 200km.

If you are traveling east, it’s a 45m min drive to the Hwy 16/ Hwy 5 intersection, an additional 10 minutes east to Mt Robson (highest peak in the Canadian Rockies at 12,972’ (3,954 m )- WELL WORTH THE TRIP- and further on to Jasper, Alberta is an additional 45 minutes. If you are heading southeast at the Hwy 16/5 interchange it’s an additional 10 more minutes to Valemount –another Snowmobiling destination and then on to Kamloops.

McBride is a birdwatcher's delight with waterfowl of all kinds; over 175 species of birds have been recorded at nearby Horseshoe Lake. On the higher peaks around McBride you can treat yourself to heli-skiing or heli-hiking. The entire Robson Valley's exceptional scenery and recreation opportunities draw back packers, anglers and white water enthusiasts.

McBride is also a thriving artisan community; a place you will be able to find quality handmade local crafts.
