Caterina Benincasa, conosciuta come Caterina da Siena (Siena, 25 marzo 1347 – Roma, 29 aprile 1380), è stata una religiosa italiana. Canonizzata da papa Pio II nel 1461; nel 1970 è stata dichiarata dottore della Chiesa da papa Paolo VI; è patrona d'Italia, compatrona d'Europa e di Varazze. Siena ha molto a cuore la sua concittadina e in occasione del 29 aprile vengono aperte le celebrazioni per ricordare la Santa, che hanno il loro culmine durante l’ultimo weekend di aprile. Il sabato mattina vengono recati omaggi floreali presso la statua della Santa; la domenica mattina una processione (composta da due tamburini, dai trombetti di palazzo, dai gonfaloni del Comune di Siena e del Magistrato delle Contrade, dal Sindaco e da altre autorità senesi e da una portantina contenente 2 ceri offerti dal comune) parte da Piazza del Campo per raggiungere prima la Casa Santuario di Santa Caterina e poi la basilica di San Domenico. La domenica pomeriggio, in Piazza del Campo, si svolge la festa delle forze armate, di cui Santa Caterina è patrona, a cui partecipano tutte le contrade e durante la quale viene impartita la benedizione all’Italia e alle Forze Armate con la reliquia di Santa Caterina.
Questa multi cache vuole ripercorrere alcuni dei luoghi dove Santa Caterina ha abitato e pregato. Ogni step sarà utile per trovare le coordinate dello step successivo, ma dato che il GPS per le vie di Siena spesso non funziona bene, sono state inserite anche delle foto di alcuni particolari che saranno utili per individuare i vari step.

Caterina Benincasa, known as Catherine of Siena (Siena, March 25, 1347 - Rome, April 29, 1380), was a tertiary of the Dominican Order, and a Scholastic philosopher and theologian. She also worked to bring the papacy of Gregory XI back to Rome from its displacement in France, and to establish peace among the Italian city-states. Canonized by Pope Pius II in 1461, in 1970 she was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church by Pope Paul VI. Siena cares a lot about her and, on April 29, celebrations to remember the Saint are opened. During the last weekend of April, on Saturday, floral tributes at the statue of St. Catherine are taken; on Sunday morning a procession (consisting of two drummers, trumpeters from the palace, the banners of the city of Siena and of the Judge of the contradas, the mayor and other authorities from Siena and, finally, a litter containing two candles offered by the municipality) starts from Piazza del Campo to reach before the Sanctuary House of St. Catherine and then the church of San Domenico. On Sunday afternoon, in Piazza del Campo, there is the festival of the Armed Forces, whose St. Catherine is patron, attended by all the contradas and during which the blessing is imparted to Italy and to the Armed Forces with the relic of St. Catherine.
This multi cache wants to retrace some of the places where St. Catherine lived and prayed. Each step will be useful to find the coordinates of the next step, but since the GPS through the streets of Siena often does not work well, photos of some details that will be useful to identify the different steps are also included.
The cache, well camouflaged, contains only the logbook. Please put it back exactly as found.
