Geocache Description:

Easy walk on the broad, gradual Guild-Hardy trail, in St. Elmo, TN.  Part of the Lookout Mountain Conservancy trail system; placed with permission from the Lookout Mountain Conservancy.

One of the geocaches needed for the RiverRocks GeoTrail Challenge Geocoin!

To reach the trailhead and parking, from St. Elmo, start up Lookout Mountain on Ochs Highway.  At the intersection of Guild Trail (road) and Ochs Highway is a trailhead parking lot with signage for the trail and room for several cars.

Park there, CAREFULLY cross Ochs Highway and you will be at the Guild-Hardy trailhead.  This trail is wide and gradual because it was originally a right-of-way for a broad gauge railroad.  This is by far the easiest trail toward the top of Lookout Mountain!

The sign at the trailhead will tell you that the Whiteside trail junction is .3 miles and Ruby Falls is 1 mile.  The cache is between those two waypoints, and between two trestles (if you cross the 2nd one, you have gone too far!) and between two rocks!  It is on the uphill side of the trail; you will not need to go more than 20' off the trail to find the cache.

You can continue on up the Guild-Hardy Trail to Ruby Falls and beyond that to the 2nd cache placed on this trail for the River Rocks GeoTrail (GC3XE4G), or return to the parking lot at the lower end of the Guild-Hardy trail. Either way, enjoy the views!

CONGRATULATIONS TO TERRI2SOUTH AND SMOKE69 FOR FTF!
