As our first cache we thought it would be a nice idea to do one on our wedding day, Friday 28th Septemebr 2012.
Please ensure you do not park at the entrance to the wedding venue! We have received permision from the owners of Sandhole Oak Barn but this will be removed if people do stop at the top of the drive.
Please park on the Wagon and Horse Pub car park across the road and cross the very busy road on to the short footpath which takes you to the top of the drive of Sandhole Oak Barn.
From 1970 the farm was used to grow mainly cereals and potatoes as well as keeping a few sheep. However in 1989 a decision was taken to cease growing the cereals and potatoes and those fields, some 200 acres, were sown with turf grass. This is harvested on average about every 18 months. Also in 1989 David and Veronica started the B&B side with three rooms in the farmhouse. It wasn’t long before a decision was taken to convert some of the stable block into 15 luxury en-suite bedrooms.
The oldest part of the stable block is believed to be about 300 years old with the roof timbers dating back a further 50-60 years. By combining the old with the new the bedrooms are very popular with both leisure and business visitors. There are many pubs and restaurants close by, indeed the nearest (Waggon and Horses) is just across the road.
As we are new to geocaching this is an easy cache to find but please make sure you return it as found!
