This cache has been placed as part of the 'V is for Vogrie - A Grand Day Out Again' event, being held at Vogrie Country Park in Midlothian on Sunday 30th September.
In February this year I moved from Pencaitland to South Australia, leaving behind some wonderful caching friends and acquaintancies from around Scotland, in particular my caching partner Tippy1969 who I miss tremendously.
Caching in South Australia is not without its hazards - the caches are tougher, often without hints, and usually in places you would not want to put your hands, lest you encounter a deadly redback spider, brown snake or red bellied black snake. The heart-stoppingly large huntsman spiders are often found to be guarding caches here, but fortunately are not venomous. My new caching equipment here includes a set of gardening gloves and a large stick!
Last year Tippy1969 and I organised our first geocaching event - V is for Vogrie - and it was a fantastic day, we had so much fun meeting everyone and reading logs from the caches after the event. This year, Tippy1969 is organising another event at Vogrie, following many requests, with the able help of Marmal. This cache is my contribution to those at Vogrie, lest we forget as they say!
This cache is a little taster of the 'giant Aussie icons' found in Australia. All you have to do is determine the name of the town where the icon is found, and use the number of letters to determine the coordinates...simple! Due to photo sharing problems, all images are now in the cache photo gallery :)
To find the cache, you must determine the name of the towns where the giant icons are found. Count the number of letters in each town name. The checksum should add up to 50. As a further complication :) you need to determine which town is furthest south, let this be Z.
The final coordinates you need are at N 55.PQ. RST W 002. UV.WXY
Where:
P = A - C
Q = (Z2 / 8)/8
R = D
S = B - C
T= B - D
U = (A+F) / 4
V = Z + 1
W = C-E
X = A - D
Y = Z - D
Too easy mate!
