Geocache Description:

This cache is inspired by the cache “Torsby City”.

What do the Värmland town of Torsby and the capitol city Stockholm have in common? They both have a cache with a similar container and a similar name. But this is not all ... they have also been host to a thriving cruiser ("raggare") culture in previous decades. If you would like to get a living glimpse of what that culture was, and to some extent still is, then Torsby is your better bet these days. As for Stockholm, this cache is a good start.

The cache coordinates take you to a bridge which overlooks what was once the main Stockholm cruising route back in the rockabilly heyday: Sveavägen - Tegnérgatan - Birger Jarlsgatan - Kungsgatan. This circuit was cruised by the likes of the Road Devils, Car Angels and Teddy Boys.

From this bridge, I recommend looking down on Kungsgatan and imagining the scene in the late Fifties. From here you can envision cruisers mixed together with other city sorts late on a buzzing weekend evening. Everybody is in search of their own version of a good time. Now that your imagination has kicked into gear, look again more closely … could it be? There’s Johnny Cash! Boy is he a long long way from home! What's he doing here? Will he find, or will he avoid, trouble tonight? Does he have enough imagination to envision one day playing a (“sold out”?) prison not far from here, after refueling his career by first playing live at Fulsom Prison in California?

To determine the final cache location, you will need the following:

A = the number of striped crosswalks that you can easily observe between the two bridges
B = the last two digits of the year Johnny Cash released his first number one hit “I Walk the Line”

The cache is located at coordinates N 59 20.XXX E 18 2.YYY

where XXX = 300 + (10 x A) – 4
and YYY = (12 x B) - 4

Please note that the cache is a approximately 1 km from the start coordinates, hence the terrain rating. Although a visit to the bridge at the starting coordinates is recommended, it is fully possible to answer the questions without visiting the spot.

Final cache location:
What can the final cache location possibly have to do with "Torsby City"? Maybe this little story will help ... lured by the promise of adventure, our hero Thor leaves his tiny village for the big city in his 1959 pink cadillac. While cruising the Stockholm circuit he meets up with some locals who invite him to a drag race where the loser hands over his car to the winner. Real life is seldom like the movies, and this is no exception. Unlike the outcome of Grease, our hero is the loser and must turn over the keys to his beloved set of wheels. Left alone to continue his journey further into the night by foot, our hero gets lost. Tired and homesick, he spends his last bit of cash on a little container of something that reminds him of the village named after him. Shortly thereafter he finds a lone bench on a quiet backstreet whose name also reminds him of home. Thinking "this must be the spot" he settles down for the night with only his little container as company. At dawn it's time to embark on his long hitchhiking journey home. He finds an appropriate spot to thumb down his first ride and finally succeeds after many cars pass him by as if unnoticed. Vowing never again to be tempted away from his home village by the lure of adventure, he "spits" his regards to Stockholm and climbs in. Only this little remnant of his visit remain, and only then if you use a little chronological fantasy.
