Geocache Description:

You are looking for a medium camouflaged lock and lock container hidden among the remnants of the Mann Cotton Mill at Manns Pond. Please be careful when searching for the cache. Please be careful to preserve this historic hidden stonework.
Update 2020: The area has been renovated and the old arch is now out in the open and easy to spot. Enjoy a seat on the new benches in the area, and be aware of muggles. If there are people in the small park, it's probably best to come back (or explain geocaching before searching).

Mann's Cotton Mill

The first Mann’s Cotton Mill was constructed in 1831 by George Harvey Mann on Devils Brook on the East Branch of the Neponset River. George Harvey Mann (1793-1847) was the son of Rufus and Sarah Allen. George bought the water privileges from Joseph Warren Revere, son of Paul Revere, and built a factory and put in machinery to manufacture bedticking. This business carried on until a fire in 1840 destroyed the factory.
In partnership with his son, George Rodney Mann, the family rebuilt the mill and started the manufacturing of cotton sail duck, a fabric made from cotton, which is lighter than canvas and heavier than sail cloth. In 1846, when the father retired, his two sons, George and William R. took over.
The sons, enlarged the business and built a new mill and by the end of the nineteenth century were delivering goods weekly, averaging 3000 pounds per week. This continued until 1900, when competition, old age, and new technology made manufacturing unprofitable and the Manns retired from business. The mill was destroyed by fire in 1919. All that remains is the old stone waterway and arch at the edge of Mann's Pond.

This was the previous site of a cache that has since been archived, but this location is very interesting and I think deserves to be resurrected. Please be careful where you step to avoid injury, and please remember, do not move any rocks in the wall! Credit to cachegolem and the original "Mann's Ruins" for showing me this spot. Thanks!

Included within the cache are a couple free vouchers for bowling at King's, some limited edition Sam Adams bottle stickers, as well as a new Sam Adams Travel Bug (part of my bottle opener TB series, in a race to open as many different types of beer as possible).
