Geocache Description:

In January 2003, the old wooden railway bridge spanning the Copperfield River at Einasleigh was destroyed when the river went into flood.
It took 18 months for this historic bridge to be restored to its former glory.
The bridge was originally constructed in 1909 for the Chillagoe Railway & Mining Company. The purpose of the railway line was to link the Chillagoe Smelters with the Einasleigh Copper Mine. Copper ore was transported from Einasleigh to Chillagoe from 1909 to 1922. In 1922, The Einasleigh Copper Mine closed after the copper ore deposit was reported to have dried up. The cache is not located on or near the bridge, but has been strategically placed at a point with-in Einasleigh, that will allow you to reflect on the accomplishment of the workers involved with the restoration effort!
The cache has a log only. Please bring a pen or pencil. While in the area, also check out the Copperfield Gorge. Ten million years ago, the Barkers Volcano located in the Chudleigh Volcanic Field, south of Einasleigh, erupted. Lava flowed along the river bed, eventually cooling. Over the next 10 million years, water has cut a path through the lava creating this spectacular gorge. There is also a cache located near the gorge (GC27YB8).

FTF goes to Wazza&Kara and walterhellmut.
