Geocache Description:

The cache is located outside the convent of Saints Raphael and Marina and the church of Saints Raphael, Nicholaos and Irini near to the village of Xylotymvou, an enclave in the eastern British sovereign base.

Mr BS has always called this area ‘Seven Churches’ but we believe there are as many as ten churches gathered closely together here. In Cyprus churches abound, but it is unusual to have so many in such proximity.

It is worth spending some time wandering around this area, exploring all the different churches, which range from ancient to modern. One even has a crypt beneath it, accessible by somewhat uneven steps.

The interior walls of the large modern church of Saints Raphael, Nicholaos and Irini are completely covered with religious paintings. We think that this must be how the old painted churches looked in their youth.

For our interest, please include in your log the number of churches that you discovered here.
