This event was a such success last year at the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail, so we've decided to do it again. This year we are heading "Off the Beaten Path" in Lone Star Lakes Park (LSLP).
Event Information:
The event will be held from 10-11am near the posted coordinates. This event is BYOF (Bring your own food). We will provide a couple cases of water. You do not have to stay the whole time, but we will probably have a small raffle for some door prizes while we're there, and you must sign the log to prove that you attended. All are welcome!
Post Event - you COULD go Caching:
Currently, LSLP has over 30 caches spread out throughout the park. Personally, I would recommend caching in small groups (somewhere between 4-8 cachers).
FAQs
Do I have to go caching to attend the event? No, the event is for folks to get together, meet new friends, reconnect with old ones and swap stories you could just stop by and sign the log then hit the trail, but you'll miss out on part of the fun (and possible prizes).
Since this event is called a "bike-n-greet", do I have to bring my bike? No. This is only our suggested mode of transportation for getting to the event and exploring the park afterwards. Be aware that the terrain may not be suitable for every bike in some spots, so use your own discretion (a mountain bike may be your best option). It's up to you whether you want to hike, bike, or even drive around the park.
Are helmets required for bike riders? They're highly suggested, but aren't required for adults. Children under the age of 14 are required by law to wear a helmet.
I've heard there are some great caches in the park to find after the event, which caches could I drive to? From what we've heard, you can drive to all but 8 of the caches in the park. If you elect to drive (even though it's not recommend on a nice day), please carpool so we don't have as many cars pulled over at one time. Also keep in mind that the speed limit is only 15mph!
Will I have fun? That's up to you - we will try our best to make this an event that everyone will enjoy. After all, isn't that what geocaching is all about?
Disclaimer:
If you elect to hike/bike/drive in the park during or after the event, you are responsible for your own safety at all times. Make sure you dress appropriately for the weather and bring adequate amounts of snacks and water. This is intended as a fun and energetic event, and we would love to see everyone leave without any geo-related injuries.
EVERYTHING mentioned above is subject to change. We will make an announcement if there is a change in plans. You should automatically get an announcement email if you log a will attend.
Please log a "will attend" and how many are represented by your geo-name so we know you are coming!!
Hope to see you there!
