Geocache Description:

Letchworth State Park Permit: LSP-63

There are many great views in Letchworth State Park. A lot of them are well known and visited often. Whether it be Inspiration Point, Great Bend, or one of the many others, I am sure that you can easily name your favorite. Some views are hidden though and you have to go looking for them. I found a nice little hidden view as I explored the area of Big Flats Trail 17 last year when I was looking for a place to hide an event cache for the Fall Gathering. The trail follows an old road that pioneers used to travel to and from the Smokey Hollow and Big Flats area of the Genesee Valley. As you pass through here imagine trying to navigate this road with oxen drawn wagons or horse and buggy in the late 1800's and early 1900's as a farmer trying to access the rich fertile fields alongside the Genesee River. This area is full of scenery and I hope you enjoy the views along the way.

Now on to the cache.

You will be looking for a four leg multi with a field puzzle twist along Trail 17. If your GPS at any times tells you to wander more than 100 feet from Trail 17 you have something wrong. This cache is family friendly and should be no problem for the kiddies to make the journey. All legs are well concealed and can be found by just carefully moving something or close examination. Please do not break, tear, and rip apart the surroundings. Being by the camping area means this area sees a lot of use. Please rehide the legs just like you have found them to keep muggles eyes off them. If something happens and you are not able to rehide the leg please let me know. Leg one has an object by it that you may be surprised to find in the middle of the woods. Nothing is hidden on or near this object. Please just observe it and do not disturb it.

Letchworth State Park is open daily from 6am to 11pm. There is a fee to enter the park from 9am to 5pm. Trail 17 starts at the Camping and Contact Station parking lot just inside the Perry entrance to the park. If the Camping and Contact Station personnel ask for your pass at the stop sign just tell them you are hiking Trail 17. There is ample room for parking. The trail is well defined but may be slippery after a period of rain. The terrain rating is for the 300 ft of elevation change throughout the cache. Don't let that scare you as it is gradual and you really won't notice it. (Until you return to the parking coords that is.)

Thank you to Park Manager Roland Beck for supporting Geocaching in the park and taking the time to meet with cache owners wishing to get caches approved.
