How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

The cache consists of two electrical boxes mounted on the side of our house. The box on the left has toggle switches on it and is the "control" panel and the box on the right will have the cache inside. The cache is easy to get to, but will require patience and problem solving to sign the log. When you stop by to find the cache check to see if Mrs. Bradley's red Jeep is in the carport; if it is feel free to ring the doorbell. I'd love to meet other cachers!

When you arrive at the cache you will first need to turn it on by lifting the red switch cover and pushing the toggle switch up. A moment later the cache will come to life as the button and red led light up showing you it is waiting for the correct pattern.

The nine switches will need to be flipped or down to form the correct pattern in order to unlock the cache box.
for example:
____________
| UP | UP | DN |
| DN | UP | UP |
| DN | DN | UP |

Once the pattern is correct a green led will light up and the button will begin flashing. Press the button to unlock the panel box to the right. Sometimes the door on the box can stick and you may need to lift the door up a little to get it to open. It should not take the force of a thousand men/women to open.

The cache will rotate through different patterns each time the puzzle is successfully solved. Once you have completed the cache please place the container back into the open panel box and ensure the box is closed and latched. Please return all toggle switches to the down position and turn the cache off by closing the red switch cover.

The cache was built using Arduino compatible Open Source Hardware. The code, build schematic, and design files are released under CC-BY-SA 3.0
