Geocache Description:

Discover some of the early history of Wanganui in Historic Putiki.

On the hill behind , to the east of historic Putik Pa, Te Rauparaha defeated the local tribes killing over ***** men
The Rev Richard Taylor arrived in ****** and gathered up the bones and buried them.

The Hill was called TAUMATA KARORO

The plinth at the summit marks the grave of Hoani Wiremu ******* who was killed in ****** at the battle ***** below Pipiriki when leading the Maori forces in the defense of Whanganui.

The cache container is a 200ml container in a camo bag. Please cover carefully when returning to its hiding place.When set up cache contained

This is a busy road with traffic leaving and arriving in Wanganui so you will need to watch children and dogs. Park on the left hand side of the road leaving town which will give you some protection from walkers and cyclists. This is a busy road with pedestrians walking around the bridges on the opposite side of the road. The fence looks electrified but I didn’t test it and there is no need to climb over the fence.
